This is us and this is how it really began - sailing Seattle's Puget Sound. Then onto the Pacific and up to Alaska.
This was back in the days of Loran and SatNav - no GPS. Dead reckoning, hand bearings, RDF, and the occasional sextant sun shot offered primary and backup navigation.
